Sarah Winifred Searle was born in Portland, Maine on Antonio Banderas’ 27th birthday, and from a very early age she was in a polyamorous relationship with her two greatest loves: visual storytelling and history.

As a child, trips were taken to family vacation hot spots such as Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia. When she wasn’t staying up past her bedtime to watch Masterpiece Theater, she was drawing comics and writing scripts for her own animated features.

Sarah graduated high school early, took time off to work in an antique shop and draw more comics, then attended one year at Maine College of Art. She wasn’t bohemian enough for art school, so she soon transferred into the New Media program at Southern Maine Community College and never looked back. “It was the best thing I ever did for myself,” she says. She was soon hired full time as a game artist and had to commute two hours (each way, uphill, in the snow) to Boston between classes for three months until graduation.

Since then she’s done increasingly more exciting work as a graphic designer, animator, illustrator, game artist, and cartoonist. As she finds more gratifying freelance work, she’s also been able to dedicate more of her time to her personal goal of being an independent creator.

Currently, Sarah is taking evening classes from Harvard University Extension School in Humanities and Visual Arts to turn her Associates into a Bachelors and earn an academic balance to her professional degree. She spends her days in a little office at the Boston Public Library as Children’s Writer-in-Residence, where she is in the middle of writing and illustrating a graphic novel about family history and ghost lore from her hometown. She spends her nights in a suburban apartment with a cat known as Kitty, a chinchilla called Creepus, and a human named Joe.

And she loves her life. She truly does.
