You’re bummed when you realize your flapper costume for Halloween isn’t going to be completely historically accurate.

Old Settlers Cemetery

I just realized there’s a cemetery next to the bench where I sit behind the New Media building at school. How I never noticed until now I don’t know, but apparently it’s South Portland’s oldest landmark, having been established in 1653.

I love old cemeteries. I want to read about this one and the people in it but the internet isn’t helping much. Perhaps I’ll look into it… come up with another ghost story. Ooh.

Hopeless

September 11th, 2009 by Sarah Winifred Searle

Blind FishermanOn September 12th (tomorrow!) a new web comic by local artist Tom Brown and his co-conspirator Bryn Colvin will debut! I can’t wait to read the first installment, I’ve been keeping an eye on Tom’s artwork for a while now and it’s exciting to see all of their long hours and hard work come to fruition.

Maine Cartoonists

September 11th, 2009 by Sarah Winifred Searle

So, we’ve got this great group going for cartoonists local to Portland, Maine (and anyone else who wants to be involved) and have had a couple successful roundtables in the past month or so. In short we’ve organizaed little meetings where we get together and talk about our projects, processes, share tips, etc. If you so happen to stumble upon this and are interested, shoot me an email at info (at) swinsea.com or join the Facebook group for updates.

I’ll use this as an excuse to plug those who’ve attended:

Elisabeth Heller

Joel Zain Rivers

Ben Bishop

Christina Siravo

Tom Brown

Hugh Martin Tims

Jeff Pert

Dave Naybor

Vanessa Blokland

Much thanks to Coast City Comics and Maple’s Gelateria for letting us use their spaces! I’ll update this blog when I know when the next meeting will be. It’s great fun.

Fictional Crush

bingley
Still reading P&P&Z. It’s been fulfilling. Bingley is just as charming as always. Also, any other fans out there should definitely check out Lost in Austen, a four episode miniseries about a modern woman who gets stuck in the book. There are very few shows I can watch over and over again; this is most certainly one of them.

New Reading Material

Awesome.

Awesome.

This is my new reading material, borrowed from my friend Vanessa. How awesome is that?

Bright New Blog

June 28th, 2009 by Sarah Winifred Searle

I changed the host for my website, which resulted in my old blog pretty much being wiped out. I didn’t figure out the whole transferring old posts thing until it was a little too late.

And so I have a brand new blog. Here you will find news on myself, my art and the comic book project that I’m working on. When it’s posted on my website this will be where I announce updates. Hopefully soon I will have a real post up… perhaps some character sketches?
