I’m based in Perth, Australia but I am available for travel and occasionally make long visits with family in New England, during which I can commit to a few events. I make comics for middle grade, teen, and adult audiences, and I can work with you to design a visit that fits your venue. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or would like to discuss potentially hosting something!
These days, a typical author visit from me includes:
• Short presentation about an aspect of storytelling, tailored to the audience’s ages and interests (examples: character design, coming up with ideas, story structure, my personal process of writing and drawing a comic)
• Live drawing with iPad projected onto screen
• Q&A with sketch requests
But it’s all flexible, so please let me know if you have anything specific in mind when you drop a line.
I’ve led events at many schools, libraries, museums, and other local organizations, each custom tailored to the participants including any current topics of study as requested by teachers and organizers. Past workshop hosts include Headspace (Fremantle, WA), Paper Bird (Fremantle, WA), Peabody Essex Museum (Salem, MA), and several branches of the Boston Public Library. I’ve spoken as an author at events like Toronto Comic Arts Festival, Small Press Expo, Supanova, and Perth Festival Writers Week.
I’m happy to pass along references upon request and for Australian appearances, I do have a current Working With Children card.
